Community housing in the Ile-de-France region is largely inherited from the time of crisis in the 20th century. The values of the past are reflected on their façades; these are no longer the values of the present. Our worries have changed and it is now difficult to settle for a minimum or a standard. Our desires for outside space, human contact and individuality are stronger than ever and this industrial architecture does not satisfy them. How do we live in these rigid, out-of-scale structures? How, in a time of public health crisis, shut away behind the façades, do residents seek escape? Will the future finally free us from our windows?
