The alternate reality of the metaverse is of course virtual, and therefore intangible, but it is no less real for it, because it enables us to converse with other people, to learn, work or even play. As such, might the metaverse be about more than mere sensations within a new environment made up of multiple new experiences? The metaverse could also be used to reach extreme scenarios that reduce architects and urban planners to endangered species. This is all purely prospective; the same applies for the issue of viewpoint, in a virtual world where people can live the life of their dreams with no restrictions or constraints, be they climate-based or societal. The permissiveness of these environments might give us – architects and a host of other professions – a unique opportunity.
