MAGNÂNE is located at the heart of the Cévennes, a mountain range to the south of the Massif Central. It aims to present and showcase a local craft that had its golden age in the mid-19th century: the cultivation of silkworms. Drawing on new farming techniques and fitting within traditional local architecture, it offers an experience at the Magnanerie de Laroque. The architecture is designed to bring humans and animals together in the same building, with a view to creating a real ecosystem based on the involvement of its visitors. Daily tasks are carried out with donkeys, the emblematic animal of the region, which enables the site’s resources to be harvested and transported to the silkworm farm (“magnanerie”).
