This project focuses on the body’s movements in stage practices and sport. As a basis for my study, in this dissertation I analyse the film Billy Elliot (Stephen Daldry, 2000). This piece transports us to working-class England in 1984, where a teenager escapes a difficult social context through dance. This case study highlights three types of imagination that have an impact on the bodily motion of a dancer, actor or athlete: collective imagination, evoking the way in which a body is shaped socially, personal imagination, which calls upon perception and lived experience, and virtual immersion, a new form of corporal stimulation.
